In 2013 BMW chose Art Car No. 4, the Andy Warhol BMW M1 group 4 race car. Warhol explained the sweeping strokes he chose: "I tried to portray speed pictorially. If a car is moving really quickly, all the lines and colors are blurred."


The first and only time this car took part in a race was at Le Mans in 1979. Driven by Manfred Winkelhock of Germany, Herve' Poulain and Marcel Mignot of France the car finished 6th overall and 2nd in their class.
